Functional
Overview
The
HTML
Express
document conversion
application will accept input file types of either .doc or .rtf; the difference
being that DOC files are first converted to RTF format by MS Word (Office 97 MS
Word or newer to be installed) whereas RTF files are passed directly into the
converter. Note that the file extension on an RTF file is irrelevant as long as
the document is composed of RTF formatted content. Inversely, any file with a
.doc extension can be converted but the output html will be a simple ASCII
paragraph if the file is not a true MS Word DOC
file.
In
addition to the numerous automatic output features, selectable options give the
user control over the inclusion and output format of TOCs, indices,
headers/footers, image types, and navigation links. File splitting of input
documents at various header level instances is also supported; a unique feature
not commonly available in entry level converters.
Process
output file directories default to the input file directory but can be changed
to a sub-folder, of the input directory, with the name of the input file (less
the .doc or .rtf extension). Additionally, image file output can be directed to
an images sub-folder. These options are accessible from the
“Output” options tab.
A listing of
conversion process input and output documents appears in an expandable
hierarchical “tree” list in the Conversion History view panel. This
provides the capability to view or re-convert files by selecting them and
clicking the appropriate command button. The file hierarchy list is persisted
for use in subsequent program sessions. The list can be cleared as desired with
the Clear History command button.
