General
options tab settings
General
option settings deal with the most commonly used features of the converter. As
described above, configuration settings are defaulted at installation time to
the most typical values. In the following sections, the installed default values
for each config setting will be designated both in
color
and with
an
*
character.
1.1.1 Image
Type
Image
type refers to the conversion output format of images embedded in the source
document. One of the supported formats of gif,
*jpg,
or png can be selected from a pick-list.
1.1.2 Table
of Contents
The
“Table of Contents” configuration select list provides for 6 output
formats as follows:
- *No
table of contents -
Output includes only document main body contents and header/footer or index
sections (if
specified).
- This
option will produce WYSIWYG HTML output that preserves all style attributes of
the original document except for the table of contents section.
- External
Toc – An application generated table of contents, based on document
outline heading sections, is included in the HTML output
file.
- This
option will produce a TOC independent of whether or not the input file includes
one of its
own.
- TOC
at top of page – Output includes contents described in item 1 with a TOC
navigational section pre-pended to the top of the output file.
- For
file splitting, each page (output file) includes a TOC with links only for the
child headings of the current heading
level.
- TOC
on left framed – Places the TOC navigational section on the left margin of
the document in a separate frame so that the TOC can be scrolled and navigated
independently of the document contents. The frame width is
“sizeable” to provide a wider viewing area for the document body.
- A
link to a separate external TOC is also generated to support browsers that are
not configured to display
frames.
- TOC
on left (non-framed) – Places the TOC navigational section on the left but
not in a separate frame. The TOC is of fixed width, and moves up or down with
the document body during scrolling or
pagination.
- TOC
at top and bottom of page – A duplicate TOC, as described in item 3, is
appended to the bottom of each page (output
file).
1.1.3 File
Splitting
Output
file splitting can be configured as a convenience for converting large files.
Splitting can be specified to start a new output file at the instance of any of
6 heading levels. e.g. a document could be split to start a new output file at
the occurrence of each heading style “1” . Similarly, the
granularity of the split can be increased to start a new output file at the
occurrence of each heading style change for up to 6 nested levels. The output
files are sequentially numbered in the order of conversion.
*No file
splitting is the
installed default.
1.1.4 Header
/
Footer
Inclusion
of input file page headers and footers can be configured to exclusively include
either headers or footers or to include both headers and footers.
*No
Header/Footer is the
installed default.
1.1.5 Conversion
History List Window
The
conversion history window contains a persisted list of all input and output
files associated with any conversion operations. The expandable primary list
nodes contain the name of the input file with child list entries for all the
output files produced for that file. Note that if a DOC file is the initial
specified conversion target, it will appear in the list for subsequent
viewing/editing but an additional RTF version of the file name will be added to
the list and the output files will be associated with the RTF node. This allows
the use of the RTF file in subsequent conversions which reduces the overhead of
performing the DOC -> RTF conversion.
1.1.6 View
Selection
The
View Selection button provides the capability to open any file that is currently
selected in the Conversion History view list providing it has a program
associated with the file type selected. This function is also available from
the “right click” menu or by double clicking the file list entry.
- Typically,
on the Windows platform, DOC and RTF files will open with MS Word while .html
files open with Internet Explorer.
1.1.7 Clear
History
The
Clear History button provides a way to clear all entries from the Conversion
History list. The “right click” menu also includes this function
and additionally allows selective removal of single list items.
- If
an input file list item is deleted, all list entries for associated child output
files will be removed.
1.1.8 Input
File
The
file name listed in the input file edit field will be submitted to the
converter when the “Convert” button is clicked. The input file name
can be typed or can be automatically set by selecting a file using the
“Browse” button function. Additionally, the name of an input file
selected from the Conversion History list will be automatically inserted into
this field.
1.1.9 AutoView
Near
the “Convert” button, at the bottom of the main panel, the
“Auto View” option can be set to on or off. With Auto view set to
on, the output HTML file will automatically be loaded into your browser and
displayed in the foreground when the conversion process has completed.
*Auto View
set to on is the
installed default.
